20 year old, Craig McBay from Clydebank has been putting his employability skills to good use with an exciting role at Great Western Golf.

Craig who completed the Certificate of Work Readiness course is now as a part-time Ranger and has been sharing how his experience at college helped him to secure the role, “I have built my confidence, communication, and employability skills over the years and this led to me being kept on after my placement finished. Without completing these steps, I would never have had the confidence in my own abilities to go out into the world of work.”

Having struggled academically at high school, Craig first came to the college on our Step 1 programme, progressing through the next levels of study ultimately completing our Certificate for Work Readiness course which has led him to securing part time employment.

Speaking about his role at Great Western Golf, Craig said, “I enjoy how varied it is on a daily basis. I have many duties such as maintaining the machinery for dispensing the golf balls, making sure that customers have everything they need before going onto the range and dealing with any face-to-face customer queries.”

He continued, “I also handle reception cover, booking lessons and topping up on customers’ range cards. I cover general maintenance throughout the site, making sure everything is kept clean and tidy. I enjoy being on my feet in the fresh air!”

When asked if he would recommend the programme to others Craig said, “You get all the support and help you need before, during and after the placement to prepare you for mainstream study or an apprenticeship or, like me, a job. I found that the Lecturers and Employability Advisor went above and beyond to help me achieve what I needed to.”

His advice be to someone in a similar situation would be to “give it a go, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I’m a prime example of what the course can do for you!”

Planning to progress at Great Western Golf for the foreseeable future so he can further develop his workplace skills, abilities, and experience, Craig says this is the “perfect start” to his career, and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes him! Good luck Craig.
