Having worked within the pharmaceutical sector in her home country of Italy. 41 year old Anna Sau from Glasgow was keen to advance her skills to pursue a career in the industry.

She originally completed one of our full time courses, an access to Pharmacy Services programme which allowed her to apply for a position with the NHS. She secured a Pharmacy Support Worker role in Aseptic unit at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and then received funding to continue her studies on the Diploma in Pharmacy Services as a pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technician.

She said,

“I feel I got the role thanks to my college course as it prepared me well for the sector and gave me a determination to succeed. As this is not my home country, it wasn't easy at all.”

Speaking about the benefits of the Access to Pharmacy Services programme Anna said, “I am completing part of my course in a community pharmacy and every day I am able to use the skills and knowledge that I have learned in college. I can see the difference with some of my colleagues that didn’t complete the course. It was the best choice I could make.”

On her college experience Anna said she would recommend the course,

“All of the subjects are very interesting, and the lecturers have designed the course to support you to move straight into a job without any trouble, giving you all the tools you need to perform to a high standard.”

Due to be fully qualified as a Pharmacy Technician in February 2024, Anna has already been offered a permanent role within the Aseptic Unit. She said, “I would definitely thank all my lecturers for their support during my course”.
