West College Scotland is proud to announce the launch of an innovative podcast series, ‘Sound Waves’ produced entirely by Media students at the Clydebank campus. These budding media professionals have created a platform to showcase their talent and engage with a wider audience.

Pod Cast Students

The idea for the College podcast arose from the excellent podcast content produced by the students as part of their coursework. Creating a college podcast allows students reach a broader audience and potentially collaborate with departments from across the campuses.

The podcast, which covers a diverse range of topics relevant to young people and students today, reflects the creative energy and passion of its creators. Episodes alternate between light-hearted discussions on media and entertainment to more serious explorations of social issues, providing listeners with a rich and engaging listening experience.

While the content and ideas behind each episode are entirely student-generated, the final editing process is overseen by Media Lecturer, Greg Hurst. Greg ensures that each episode maintains a high standard of quality and consistency, guaranteeing a polished and professional listening experience for audiences.

Lecturer, Greg Hurst, commented, “The whole project’s been great – it’s giving our learners valuable experience working together and planning, as well as showing them what’s expected in the commercial podcasting world.

It’s also been very encouraging seeing how many students want to be involved in an extracurricular project!

And it’s created a buzz around the College, with other departments wanting to get involved.”

Reflecting on their experience, students involved in the podcast production expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction with the project.

Calieb Moir, HNC Media student, remarked,

It was fun to make a podcast episode with friends and have an open discussion about an important current topic that affects us as young people.

Similarly, Morgan Campbell, also an HNC Media, described the experience as "too much fun," highlighting the bonding experience it provided within the class.

Listeners can expect new episodes of the podcast to be released fortnightly, featuring engaging discussions and thought-provoking content created by the talented Media.
