Congratulations to the talented trio who designed a winning cross-platform app for the Barrhead Foundry after attending a course we specifically designed to give participating East Renfrewshire school pupils a more complex grounding in building apps.

The youngsters all attended West College Scotland's Paisley campus every week for four months and learned how to build and market mobile apps and online games using the course platform tool TouchDevelop.

In groups of three the pupils worked on their own prototype. And the winning app was chosen by Andrew Webber, senior marketing lead for Microsoft Developer Experience Group and David Renton, curriculum quality leader for computing at West College Scotland.

David Renton, curriculum quality leader for computing at West College Scotland said:

This was an enriching experience for students in that it made things real for them by having an actual client to please and by having to compete against other teams. It has helped them develop their skills not just in app development but also in research, team working and presenting. The final day was also a great experience, especially when the boys got to demonstrate their app to Princess Anne on Surface3 tablets which Microsoft had loaned us for the day.
