The Construction Industry is exceptionally buoyant at present, and this trend is predicted to continue into the foreseeable future. With the development within the process of building houses today, there is a heavy emphasis on carpentry & joinery.

Our Pre Apprentice NPA Construction Crafts: Carpentry and Joinery is predominately a practical course with some classroom elements. Pupils work within the college environment in a carpentry & joinery workshop, using a range of relevant tools and equipment.

This year two groups of S4, S5 and S6 pupils from all 5 West Dunbartonshire Schools have been completing the course.

The pupils from Clydebank High, St Peter the Apostle High, Vale of Leven Academy, Our Lady and St Patricks High and Dumbarton Academy pupils have enjoyed completing the course, Lauren Jarvis from Clydebank High said,

“College is a different experience to in school, I really like it.”

Ryan Porter also of Clydebank High agreed saying, “I enjoy coming to college as I can learn new skills and meet new people!

They also get the chance to develop your meta-skills and a completed portfolio which is a useful resource to use when seeking a job!

S5 pupil, David Milne said,

“I enjoy joinery in college as I find the things we make interesting.”

and Lewis Gaillie, also S5 has hopes of using the courses to move into industry; “I want to be a Joiner and the course is a good step towards that.”
