Project Management is a discipline that has evolved in order to coordinate and control resources and activities to achieve specific goals and objectives. It involves decision making, common sense, organisation, time management and assertiveness to deliver these goals and objectives within constraints – the primary ones being scope, time and budget

Course Overview:

This 2 day course is aimed at individuals who manage projects, along with their other everyday tasks and need a broad understanding of the principles of project management. The course provides an overview of project management and introduces areas where other, more specific training may be beneficial.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify the various stages of the Project Lifecycle
  • Understand how projects start – the Business Case, and the Project Life Cycle
  • Identify the definition of project management
  • Understand various Project methodologies, and explore the similarities and differences between traditional and agile project management
  • Determine how organizational structure affects projects
  • Set Objectives

 

  • Write a ‘Terms of Reference’ for a project; and distinguish the best ways to craft a quality plan
  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities within a project; and explore the fundamentals of analyzing project stakeholders
  • Understand the role of the Project Manager when managing individuals and teams
  • Understand the importance of a communication plan for a project
  • Plan a project using project management techniques: Work Breakdown Structures, Estimating, Resource Loading, Budgeting
  • Identify the critical path through a project
  • Understand basic elements of risk analysis and management as well as change management
  • Understand the importance of tracking project progress and project review
  • Have an introduction to Project Management Software.
