This collaborative effort extends beyond traditional academic boundaries, creating a unique space for the College's Creative Industry students to be innovative. The project saw departments from across the College including Graphic Design, Interior Design and Painting and Decorating come together to produce a logo, room design and install to bring the creation to life.

The project was born out of Curriculum Enhancement Lecturer Julie Cooper's admiration for the success of MOYA projects and the desire to enhance the curriculum. Julie envisioned creating a social enterprise space where students could work with clients, apply their practical skills, build confidence and explore enterprise opportunities.

Julie said, "I've always admired the success of the MOYA projects and was looking for ways to enhance the curriculum in photography and media.

It has always been a dream to setup a social enterprise training space to allow our students to work with clients, and to make and create products, utilising their practical skills, building confidence, and enterprise opportunities are at the forefront of our aims.

'After brainstorming with Billy and Debbie - Studio by Moya was born!"

In order to create the space, the Graphic and Interior Design students were given briefs to design a logo for “lens-based capture and production.” The winning logo design, chosen by a panel consisting of team MOYA staff, HND Photography students, and freelance design artists, reflects the CYMK colours from the original MOYA logo to maintain consistency.

Graphic Design Lecturer, Debbie Dennett, who was a key collaborator shared insights into the Power Project where students were tasked with creating a brand in a day. She said,

The winning logo for Studio by MOYA, designed by Tiegan Smith, stood out for its WOW impact and high-quality look.

Student Tiegan Smith said, “Seeing my logo printed on all the signage for the student space has given me lots of confidence for the next brief.”

After a meticulous selection process for the winning logo, the talented HNC Interior Design students embarked on crafting stunning interior vision boards for the designated space. Among the exceptional designs, Julia Ka Man Sin's visionary board emerged as the triumphant choice.

The Painting and Decorating students then got to work  bringing the visionary project to life.

Derek Smillie, Curriculum and Quality Leader for Painting and Decorating said, “We were thrilled to be part of this cross-department collaboration. Learning opportunities like this are invaluable to our students in aiding their learning experiences and helping prepare them for industry.

They done a fantastic job bringing the brief to life, with all parties delighted with the finished product.”

Julie concluded that the unique opportunity Studio by MOYA provides students with is bridging the gap between studying and working in an entrepreneurial space. "The space itself inspires and gives students the opportunity to push and practice the skills they learn in classes.

Moving forward, we are looking to collaborate more and share skills with other businesses and in-house with staff and students in dance, drama, music, hair, and make-up, catering. Please get in touch with collaboration opportunities.
