Supporting the Colleges ‘Digital Difference’ project the grant of £25,370 will allow the College’s Hospitality sector to purchase specialist video equipment to facilitate and stream live practical demonstrations, allowing students to watch at home or from a socially distanced environment within the college.

Jim McAlister, Head of Hospitality, Tourism, Languages and Business, said, “Delivering courses remotely like hospitality, which rely on practical learning, comes with its challenges.

By purchasing the latest technologies, it will allow us to bring digital delivery into our teaching and learning and build an online resource, making the learning experience more engaging and enjoyable. As well as this it will facilitate the delivery of cross campus teaching.

In addition, the College will be able to interact with International partners and provide opportunities for future collaboration to be extended to a wider range of activities such as 'live demonstrations' and 'live joint activities.

Sara Rae, Assistant Principal, Enterprise and Skills, commented, “Innovative use of technology has never been more important in education.

The resources funded by the Savoy Educational Trust will accelerate how we embed digital transformation within West College Scotland to support the skills development of our learners and meet the changing needs of the Scottish economy.
