What will I learn?
This course gives you a broad introduction to the world of computing and digital technology. You’ll build practical skills across software, web, multimedia, networking and hardware — ideal if you’re interested in a future career in IT but not sure which area is right for you.
You’ll learn about:
- Software Design & Development – learn key programming concepts and how applications are built
- Multimedia – work with audio, video, images and interactive content
- App Development for Mobile Devices – explore how mobile apps are planned and created
- Web Design – design, structure and style attractive websites
- Networking – understand how computers connect and communicate
- Digital Media Elements – create and edit graphics, animations and media assets
- Hardware & Systems – learn how computers work from the inside out
- Website Graphics – produce visual assets for use online
- Website Development – build your own functional websites
What qualifications do I need?
You’ll need three National 5 (SCQF Level 5) qualifications at Grade C/3 or above, including English and Numeracy.
If you don’t have formal qualifications but can demonstrate enthusiasm and relevant computing knowledge, you are welcome to apply. Mature learners are encouraged to apply too.
As part of the application process, you’ll be invited to attend an interview.
What can I do after?
After completing this course, you can progress to a range of specialist Level 6 and Level 7 courses, including:
