What will I learn?
This advanced course builds on the HNC Software Development and prepares you for professional roles in programming, application development, and software engineering. You’ll deepen your understanding of object-oriented development, data structures, web technologies and team-based project work.
You'll learn about:
- Java Object-Oriented Programming – develop robust, scalable applications using industry-standard techniques
- Object-Oriented Analysis & Design – plan and model software systems using modern methodologies
- Data Structures – explore efficient structures and algorithms for real-world development
- Project Management for IT – manage, deliver and document software projects effectively
- Software Development: Developing Websites for Multiplatform Use – develop a broad knowledge of the concepts, principles, boundaries and scope of software development using client and server-side scripting languages for optimised website production.
- Relational Database Management Systems and SQL – delivered using the Oracle Academy Curriculum. Design and create a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and learn the terminology and key concepts used in the process of creating a relational database.
What qualifications do I need?
You must have successfully completed the HNC Software Development with 15 credits.
What can I do after?
After completing this course, you’ll have the skills required for entry-level roles in the software and computing industry, including:
- Software Developer
- Programmer
- Systems Analyst
You can also progress directly into second or third year of a university degree, such as:
- BSc Computing – University of the West of Scotland
- BSc Computing – Glasgow Caledonian University
Many students also choose to continue part-time study with the Open University while gaining industry experience.
