HND Computing: Networking

What will I learn?

This advanced HND builds on your HNC and prepares you for technical roles across networking, cyber security and systems administration. You’ll work with real technologies, real tools and industry-standard practices that employers look for.

You'll learn about:

  • Routing & Switching – configure, manage and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure
  • Digital Forensics – investigate security incidents, analyse digital evidence and understand forensic processes
  • Data Security – protect systems, networks and users through secure technologies and best practice
  • Server Administration – deploy, manage and secure server environments
  • Project Management – plan, deliver and oversee technical projects effectively
  • Client Operating Systems – configure and support desktop operating systems in business environments

Throughout the course, you’ll also work towards a range of industry-recognised vendor qualifications, including content from Microsoft and Cisco Networking Academy.

What qualifications do I need?

You must have successfully completed the HNC Computing with 15 credits.

What can I do after?

After completing this course, you’ll be ready to apply for entry-level roles within networking, technical support, cyber security, and systems administration.

You can also progress directly into second or third year of a university degree, such as:

  • BSc Computer Networking – University of the West of Scotland
  • BSc Networking / Cyber Security – Glasgow Caledonian University
  • BSc (Hons) Ethical Hacking – Abertay University

Many students also choose to continue part-time study with the Open University while working.
