The James Frew Academy continues to go from strength to strength at West College Scotland’s Paisley campus.

New recruits Steven Lee, Sonny Mullen and Leo Colquhoun are perfect examples of that, now joining the 1st year apprentice cohort. All three applied for an apprenticeship opportunity with James Frew Ltd back in April 2021 and performed well throughout our rigorous selection process and they were delighted to be able to offer them places on the pre-apprenticeship programme.

The students excelled in the programme which involves attending WCS Paisley campus 3 days per week on a Pre-Apprenticeship Plumbing course to gain off-the-job training, and on-site work experience with James Frew for remaining two days for vital on-the-job training.  They were keen to learn and up for the challenge and feedback on their progress from both the College and their employer on site showed that they were showing eagerness and promise.

All three have been offered the chance to join the James Frew Academy 1st year group, albeit slightly later in the year. Steven, Sonny and Leo are all continuing to work hard and are enjoying their apprenticeship opportunity.

Head of Construction and Building Services at WCS, Paul Lynn said,

“Steven, Sonny and Leo are great examples of the positive progression offered via the apprenticeship framework. We are delighted to support them in their pre-apprenticeship training providing them with the skills and knowledge to advance to the next stage in their career. The Academy continues to produce high quality candidates, developing a pipeline of talent for James Frew Ltd’s future workforce and the College continues to be committed to the success of our valued partnership.”

Managing Director, Roddy Frew said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that we have been able to give Steven, Sonny and Leo this opportunity. They have shown tremendous commitment and hard work during their time with the organisation so far, and I look forward to seeing them continue to flourish and wish them all success with James Frew”.
