This year again, students from Care courses at both our Greenock and Clydebank Campuses took part in Blythswood Care’s Shoe Box Appeal to help provide practical support for those in need.

To achieve the outcomes for their course unit ‘Working with Others’, the students decided to get involved in a charity event. Inspired by the video from Blythswood Care about their Shoe Box Appeal, they decided that this would be a worthwhile cause. They worked really hard and collected an astonishing total of 140 shoe boxes full of goods!

Kate Kennedy, Greenock Campus Health & Social Care Lecturer, fully supported the initiative of her students. She said:

This type of event ties into the ethos of our department which is ‘Care and Life Sciences’, I feel it encourages students to think about the basic needs of others that are not being met, and that by being involved in this appeal they will put a smile on people’s faces as they open their box and realise that others in this world do care.

Christine Morton, Clydebank Campus Childhood Practice Lecturer, said:

The students were very generous with their time and contributions – just our group collected 42 boxes this year!

The students delivered the boxes at Blythswood Care’s warehouse and spent a morning helping to pack the shoe boxes for shipping out. Pauline Ellis, one of the Greenock Campus National 4 Care Students commented:

Going there and helping out really gave me a sense of achievement. I feel that being involved in the appeal is a very worthwhile cause.

Welcoming the students at the warehouse, a representative from Blythswood Care said:

I’m glad to see the students from the College back and pleased that we had increased the number of boxes from last year to 140. I hope they will participate again in the future!
