West's New Lead Sheet Training Academy Opens in Greenock

Monday 13 February was an exciting day at our Greenock campus, with the formal opening of our new and improved Lead Sheet Training Academy. This workshop, one of only two approved satellite centres in Scotland, is custom-made to provide students with modern equipment, real-world skills, and an enhanced learning experience.

Anne Campbell, Principal and Chief Executive at West, is particularly excited about the opportunities which will arise from the Academy, and is proud to be at the forefront of industry-demand:

We are excited to help play a central part in upskilling the next generation of lead workers within our region, and beyond.

Principal and Chief Executive of West College Scotland

Having top-of-the-range equipment and a dedicated space is one thing, but none of this would be enough without the expertise of West’s staff. Brian Thomson, Curriculum Enhancement Lecturer in Construction, says the facility is “a real passion” of all staff involved, and Anne echoes this sentiment:

Our lecturers have decades of lead working experience across a range of projects. They bring a wealth of knowledge and are extremely passionate about passing on the traditional skills required for the roofing and leadwork industry.

Our first group to be trained came from Ayrshire Roofing, and the feedback about the space, the equipment and the staff was excellent, with all learners saying they benefitted hugely from the training. We can’t wait to welcome more learners through the door and continue to champion the Construction workers of the present and the future.
