West College Scotland Set to Host The Scottish Games Education Symposium

The Scottish Games Education Symposium is delivered in partnership between the Scottish Games Education Network (SGEN) and the Scottish Games Network (SGN) and brings together educators, industry professionals and creative practitioners from across Scotland. West College Scotland is proud to serve as both host and lead sponsor of the 2026 event.

It’s a privilege to host the Scottish Games Education Symposium here in Paisley. We are excited to welcome colleagues not only from games education, but from across the wider creative industries, to explore new connections, fresh ideas and meaningful opportunities for our students.

Expanding the Creative Conversation

This year’s symposium places a strong emphasis on the wider creative industries, alongside games development. West College Scotland’s HN Games Development course reflects this interdisciplinary approach, covering the full creative process of interactive experiences – from planning and design to programming, art and animation, storytelling and sound.

While games development is deeply creative, it is not always fully recognised within the broader creative industries landscape. SGES 2026 aims to bridge this gap by fostering dialogue between games, art and animation, storytelling, and sound production, encouraging collaboration across disciplines that are often taught within the same institutions but rarely intersect.

Purpose of the Day

The symposium will bring together voices from across education and industry to:

  • Share perspectives on how games are viewed within the wider creative industries

  • Explore opportunities for stronger collaboration between games and other creative disciplines

  • Discuss how education can better equip students with the skills needed to meet the evolving demands of the creative sector

By encouraging cross-sector dialogue, the event aims to ensure graduates leave education with not only strong technical abilities, but also the creative, collaborative and interdisciplinary skills required for a diverse range of career pathways.

Who Should Attend

The Scottish Games Education Symposium 2026 will welcome:

  • Educators and academics involved in games, computing and creative subjects

  • Industry professionals and business leaders from games and the wider creative industries

  • Policy makers and sector organisations interested in skills development and creative education

Educators seeking to stay ahead of the curve in games and creative education are encouraged to attend, alongside business leaders keen to share industry insight and build stronger connections with institutions across Scotland.
