West College Scotland was delighted to host its inaugural International Women’s Day networking event, delivered in collaboration with Inverclyde and Renfrewshire Chambers of Commerce. The event took place on Friday 6 March in the College’s Ambition Restaurant at the Greenock campus, welcoming an inspiring group of leaders from across the three regions the College proudly serves.
The event comes shortly after the launch of West College Scotland’s new Strategic Plan, We Are West—a bold commitment to inspire and transform lives by harnessing the individual and collective talent of staff, learners, partners, stakeholders, and industry. Opening the event, Principal and Chief Executive, Anne Campbell reflected on the responsibility the College holds in unlocking the vast potential of women across its communities, reinforcing the College’s vision for an inclusive and empowering future.
Guests heard from a remarkable panel of speakers including:
- Lizzy Todd, Founder & Director, Tweetie Pie Media
- Marisa Gianassi, Co‑Founder & Creative Director, Method Studio Scotland
- Rebecca Bell, Managing Director, Spectrum Service Solutions
- Sobia White, Founder & Director, Swan Grace Pilates
- Dr Poonam Gupta, Entrepreneur, CEO & Founder, PG Paper Company Ltd
Each shared their personal journeys to success—the highs, the hurdles, and the defining moments that shaped their careers. While their stories were diverse, common themes emerged throughout their discussions, including imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and resilience. Their messages collectively encouraged guests to be bold, ambitious, and unapologetic in setting big goals—and to let those who underestimate them be their motivation.
The event embraced the ethos of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, with speakers emphasising the importance of supporting and championing other women, building meaningful relationships, and surrounding themselves with the right people.
Attendees were also treated to an exceptional lunch prepared and served by the College’s talented Level 5 Hospitality students, showcasing skills on par with those of leading hotels.
Chair of the Board, Dr Waiyin Hatton, who chaired the event, reflected on the energy and impact of the day, noting the strength and inspiration that comes from creating spaces for women to connect, collaborate, and grow.
Bringing the event to a close, Principal Anne encouraged attendees not to “leave this at the door,” but instead continue the conversation beyond the event and commit to giving back to their communities in meaningful ways.
