West College Scotland is delighted to present the inaugural exhibition of artwork created by students from the Ferguslie Learning Centre. This event represents a major milestone, as it marks the first public display of artwork in the centre’s 21-year history. Each exhibiting artist began the drawing and painting course in August 2025, many approaching the subject with little or no previous experience. Over the span of fourteen weeks, the group developed new skills, explored creative techniques, and produced an impressive range of original artwork now proudly shared with the community.
The exhibition features a diverse collection of pieces, including portraiture, landscapes, studies of local architecture, depictions of flora and fauna, and a host of individually inspired subjects. As the course progressed, students were introduced to a variety of artistic influences. Their detailed coloured pencil studies reflect the influence of Michael Angove, while other works draw on the unique style and visual storytelling of Paisley’s own John Byrne. Additional pieces show inspiration from the bold expressive strokes of Vincent Van Gogh and the soft atmospheric qualities associated with Claude Monet. Together, the artworks demonstrate the students’ commitment, curiosity, and willingness to experiment with both technique and personal expression.
Throughout their learning journey, students gained confidence in drawing, composition, colour theory, and painting, gradually discovering their own creative identities. This exhibition stands as a testament to their progress, determination, and the supportive environment fostered at the Ferguslie Learning Centre. During the event, each artist was presented with certificates and prizes recognising their achievements.
The artwork is on display on Thursday and Friday, and all pieces are available for purchase, with proceeds going directly to the artists. The college extends congratulations to all participants and invites the public to celebrate this important moment for the Ferguslie Learning Centre and its talented group of emerging artists.
