From Classroom to Construction Site: Student Success at CECA Scotland Academy
A former student of West’s CECA Scotland Academy is already making his mark in the construction industry, just months after completing his training. Now working as a groundworker for Luddon Construction, Brandon Kerr credits West for giving him the knowledge, skills and confidence to get him to where he is today.
With a long-standing ambition to work in the construction industry, Brandon enrolled in the CECA Academy and began his 6-month course in January 2025.
I’ve always wanted to be in the building industry and learn how it’s properly done,” he explained. “CECA, for me, was the best way to get my foot in the door. I wanted a career where I could actually see the results in my work at the end of the day.
Having the opportunity to work alongside construction companies whilst still studying gave Brandon and his peers early insight into the industry, and he didn’t hesitate when asked to sum up his experience at college:
Fun, hands-on, game changing.
The practical nature of the course stood out as a key factor in Brandon’s development, giving him the confidence and skills needed to transition directly into employment. Another USP came immediately after graduation, when companies within the industry descended on the college, offering interviews to those who had graduated only minutes before.
Gaining employment with Luddon Construction has allowed Brandon to apply his learning, and practical experience, to his role, and Brandon proudly admits that he is “still learning every day and still enjoying every bit of it”.
Looking ahead, Brandon’s ambitions are clear:
The goal is to keep levelling up, master my craft, work on some massive projects, and eventually lead my own team.

I would like to give a massive shout out to my instructor, Jamie Kerr, and the team at CECA Academy Scotland. They didn’t just teach me skills – they gave me the confidence to step onto a site and hold my own.
