Collaboration, Fundraising and Pyjamas

£2,430 raised. 650 pairs of pyjamas donated. 2 departments working collaboratively on 1 very special initiative. What an impressive outcome for our recent Pyjama Project, all in aid of helping youngsters in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

This project came about when our Learner Development team partnered with a charity called Children’s Hospital Pyjamas, making West the only coordinator of the project in Scotland. The plan was simple (collect children’s pyjamas) yet the effort was immense, and involved setting up a direct link for purchasing, placing giving trees around campus, collecting pyjamas and spreading the word far and wide. Not only this, but our students have been responsible for packing the pyjamas by size and including two identical fabric hearts in each package – one heart for the child in hospital and one to go home with their parents/carers.

The efforts of our Learner Development students did not go unnoticed by our Engineering students, namely apprentices from Babcock and BAE, and they decided to help raise funds to be able to purchase pyjamas. They set up a fundraising page online and organised a bonus ball in addition to this, all of which raised over £2,400.

It is always really special to see collaboration across departments and this, coupled with the impressive outcome of the project, is heartwarming, inspiring and such a proud moment for everyone at West.

We would like to thank the amazing students in our Learner Development and Engineering departments for joining forces to help such a worthy cause, and for doing it with such passion and excitement. Well done to all involved!
