Clydebank Apprentice Wins Apprentice of the Year Award

Alireza Mohammadi has been named Apprentice of the Year in Painting & Decorating after an exceptional performance at the 47th National Painting and Decorating Competition in Fife.

Competing at Fife College on 28 May 2026, Alireza — originally from Iran and now living in Partick — showcased the skill, professionalism and dedication that have defined his apprenticeship at West’s Clydebank campus. His work stood out among competitors from across the country, earning him this prestigious title.

Recognised by lecturers and peers alike as an extremely hard‑working apprentice, Alireza has consistently demonstrated excellent timekeeping, a positive attitude, strong work ethic and an ability to collaborate effectively with others. His commitment to developing his craft has been evident both inside and outside the classroom.

Speaking of his achievement, Alireza says:

 
It’s a great achievement winning this award, and I am over the moon with all the Purdy equipment that the college has given me. I’m looking forward to continuing my apprenticeship at West College Scotland.

Alireza’s success has also been supported by his employer, J & R Anderson, where he continues to build his practical skills and industry experience as part of his apprenticeship.

Alireza's achievement highlights the talent, dedication and professionalism emerging from Scotland’s construction apprenticeships and reflects the high standard of training delivered at West College Scotland.
