After gaining experience in the pharmaceutical sector in her native Italy, Glasgow resident Anna Sau was determined to build on her skills and pursue a career in the industry in Scotland.
Anna first enrolled on our full-time pre-apprenticeship Pharmacy Services programme, which provided her with the knowledge and confidence to apply for roles within the NHS. Following the course, Anna secured a position as a Pharmacy Support Worker in a hospital setting, before progressing to a pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technician role, all while studying her Diploma in Pharmacy Services. After successfully qualifying and registering as a Pharmacy Technician, Anna now supports prescribing teams through the delivery of e-health digital services.
Reflecting on her journey, Anna said:
I feel I got the first role thanks to my college course as it prepared me well for the sector and gave me a determination to succeed. As this is not my home country, it wasn't easy at all, but the lecturers were amazingly supportive and encouraging.
Speaking about the benefits of the pre-apprenticeship Pharmacy Services programme, Anna added:
All of the subjects are very interesting, and the lecturers have designed the course to support you to move straight into a job without any trouble, giving you all the tools you need to perform to a high standard.
Anna also highlighted the value of full-time study as a pathway into an apprenticeship:
The course gave me confidence, and the learning skills needed to be able to cope with the demands of working and learning.
