I liked that the course was heavily focused on a career path rather than just getting a qualification and then never doing anything with it.

Emily Worms left school after 5th year and had one goal in mind: to become a professional photographer. After researching different courses and colleges, Emily was impressed with West College Scotland’s offering, and decided to study at our Paisley campus. Emily was not only intrigued by the structure of the course and the modules taught, but also the fact that the course provided the opportunity to undertake professional work experience and field trips, all activities which would build her portfolio.

Having completed her HNC in Photography, Emily is now studying her HND and has high praise for her experience at West College Scotland:

The lecturers are so thorough, the course covers so much content and there are a wide variety of techniques which I have learned throughout my studies.

Photographing West College Scotland’s November graduation ceremonies was one activity which Emily took part in, and the ceremonies provided a chance to carry out some professional work experience. Emily says of the experience:

Not only was photographing the ceremonies fun, but it was a great chance to put my learning into practice and produce images which perfectly capture the day for each of the graduates.

Emily had barely put her camera down when another exciting opportunity arose in December. While doing work experience with a company in Govan, Emily had the chance to photograph musician Nile Rodgers before his show at the Hydro. Describing it as “an amazing opportunity”, Emily is thoroughly enjoying the doors which have opened to her since joining West College Scotland. With her ultimate ambition being to work as a professional photographer, Emily is certainly doing everything she can to get there, both in and out of college.
