When Sagar Massey arrived at West College Scotland as a Professional Cookery student, he had a clear ambition: to build a successful career as a chef. Through dedication, hard work and a commitment to excellence, that ambition has grown into an award-winning career and successful restaurant business.
After studying Professional Cookery Levels 4, 5 and 6, followed by an HNC in Professional Cookery at West College Scotland, Sagar developed the technical skills and industry knowledge that formed the foundation of his career. During his studies, he was recognised for his talent and determination by winning Hospitality Student of the Year.
Following college, Sagar worked in some of Scotland's most respected hospitality establishments, including Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond, Mar Hall Hotel & Spa, Isle of Eriska Hotel & Spa and Rusacks Hotel in St Andrews. These experiences allowed him to refine his skills in high-level kitchens and gain valuable leadership experience.
Throughout his career, Sagar has achieved success in numerous national culinary competitions. His awards include winning UK Young Seafood Chef of the Year and Young Scottish Chef of the Year, alongside several finalist positions in prestigious chef competitions across the UK.
In 2022, Sagar reached a major milestone when he became a finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals, showcasing his culinary talent to a national audience and earning recognition as one of the UK's most promising chefs.
Building on this experience, Sagar opened his own restaurant, Angeethi by Sagar Massey, in Glasgow. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation for exceptional Indian cuisine and outstanding hospitality. Within just five months of opening, Angeethi was added to the Michelin Guide, a remarkable achievement for a new independent restaurant.
The success continued in 2026 when Angeethi was awarded a Bib Gourmand, recognising exceptional food at great value. The restaurant became the only Indian restaurant in Scotland to hold this prestigious distinction, firmly establishing Sagar as one of Scotland's leading chef-restaurateurs.
Today, Sagar continues to lead Angeethi while preparing to open a second restaurant in Glasgow city centre. His journey from West College Scotland student to award-winning chef, entrepreneur and Michelin-recognised restaurateur demonstrates what can be achieved through passion, resilience and hard work.
Sagar remains proud of his time at West College Scotland and credits the college with providing the skills, knowledge and confidence that helped him build a successful career in the hospitality industry.
