Overview

What will I learn?

Photography is everywhere. It is the dominant form of visual communication across the globe.

This course is designed to make you part of that world of photography.

So many jobs now include photography from drone pilot, property photographer to fashion photographer.

Taking you from the ‘ground up’ we will train you in a wide range of photographic techniques from portraiture to landscape. You will work on location, in the studio. You will edit your pictures using current image editing software. You will have the opportunity to work with film photography including analogue cameras & darkroom equipment.

Video production and moving images are also part of the course.

The course is designed to build your technical and creative confidence as a photographer. You will learn how to use a DSLR camera (supplied if required) and take pictures of a very wide range of subjects.

The course is fun and very social – you will be working with other like-minded people. It blends technical and creative approaches – you are sure to find what aspects of photography you excel at really quickly during the course.

The tutors on the course are experienced tutors and photographers who have the skills to inspire and support you through the course.

At our campuses, this course is part of a suite of Creative Industry qualifications, where along with learning focussed Media skills listed above, you will also develop a range of entrepreneurial skills, helping you to become more employable across all sectors of the Creative Industries.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in our flexible NC provision should you wish, where you can choose a mix of any modules from the range of Creative Industries NC courses we run at both Clydebank and Greenock campuses and create a course unique to you and your interests, building your own timetable along the way.

What qualifications do I need?

You may have taken pictures on your camera or your phone. You may be in awe of the work of other photographers. You may just be fascinated by the subject. To gain a place on the course please collect a set of pictures you have taken (around 6- 10).

These can be simple pictures – the idea here is for you to show your interest and commitment to studying photography.

What can I do after?

It is possible to move in so many directions after this course – for example computing/games design/animation/graphic design/media.

You may well want to advance and diversify your photographic skills – we would recommend that you join the HNC Photography course to build and widen your skills as a photographer.

Employment opportunities would be in a junior position such as a trainee or apprentice, an example of these areas would be in a photo lab, photo technician, junior photographer.
