Overview

What will I learn?

You'll learn about and use skills in:

  • Video, Radio and Television Production
  • Interviewing
  • Analysing Media
  • Digital Editing
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Scriptwriting
  • Communication
  • Photography
  • Social Media
  • Project Planning

You'll learn how to analyse media and develop your creative process, and will use these skills to complete an individual project by the end of the course. You’ll also take part in field trips and masterclasses from people working in media.

At our Greenock and Clydebank campuses, this course is part of a suite of creative industry qualifications, where along with learning the focussed media skills listed above, you will also develop a range of entrepreneurial skills, helping you to become more employable across all sectors of the Creative Industries. You will have the opportunity to take part in our flexible NC provision should you wish, where you can choose a mix of any modules from the range of Creative Industries NC courses we run. You’ll create a course unique to you and your interests, building your own timetable along the way.

What qualifications do I need?

At our Greenock and Paisley campuses no formal qualifications are required. At our Clydebank campus, Communication or English at SCQF level 5 is preferred. This makes it possible to achieve level 6 Communication and progress to HNC Media and Communication. If you have alternative evidence of communication at level 5, please let us know when you apply and this may be taken into account.

Whichever campus you choose, previous achievement at SCQF level 5 may help you manage the course more easily. Your qualifications and experience will be discussed at an interview where you must show you have a strong interest in media and desire for learning.

What can I do after?

After completing NC Media you'll have the skills you need to apply for entry level assistant roles in the creative industries or a HN course such as:

  • HNC Media and Communication
  • HNC Television Production
  • HNC Graphic Design
  • HNC Sound Production
  • HNC Photography
