Why study at West?

Our Learner Development courses are suitable for anyone who has had additional support for learning at school. If you are a new applicant and have not attended a full-time college course before, you may want to consider the Step 1 course in the first instance as Step 2 is normally a progression route from that course.

What will I learn?

Content may include:

  • A range of Vocational tasters
  • Enterprise projects
  • Personal development
  • Meta skills
  • Volunteering
  • Skills for Employment
  • Team Working
  • Problem Solving

Work experience placements are part of this course.

What qualifications do I need?

Most successful applicants will have successfully completed Step 1. Those who can demonstrate they are working at a higher level though can enter the learner development programme at Step 2

You'll be invited for interview and will be expected to clearly demonstrate evidence of commitment and motivation. You'll also need to be interested in new experiences to develop skills for learning, life and work. Successful applicants will be able to travel independently

What can I do after?

After successfully completing this course you will have the skills needed to apply for a Level 4 mainstream course.

Or you could develop your skills further by studying another course, such as:

  • Steps to Work
  • Certificate of Work Readiness
