What will I learn?
The National 5 Applications of Maths course is the study of Maths in real-life contexts. It focuses on the areas of numeracy, finance, statistics, measurement and geometry and aims to equip learners with the mathematical skills and knowledge they will need in their everyday lives – both personally and in the workplace.
What qualifications do I need?
Learners would normally be expected to have attained the skills, knowledge and understanding required by Standard Grade,General Maths 3 or 4, National 4 Maths, National 4 Lifeskills Maths, National 4 Applications of Maths or Intermediate 1 Maths at A or B.
National 5 Applications of Maths may be more appropriate for those applicants looking for a more practical Maths course without the algebra and trigonometry element found in National 5 Maths.
All applications must include a personal statement detailing why you want to study Maths and what Maths qualifications you currently hold.
What can I do after?
National 5 Applications of Maths may be accepted as an alternative to National 5 Maths for entry to a variety of courses such as primary teaching, social work and nursing.
It is the responsibility of applicants to confirm entry requirements for their chosen courses to ensure that Applications of Maths will be accepted. Please note that Applications of Maths is not accepted for entry to Higher Maths as it does not contain the algebra or trigonometry required for progression.
