Course Aims

The CCN1 initial training and assessment course is for gas installers undertaking their ACS qualifications for the first time or renewing certificates which have expired more the 12 months previously.

The Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) is the industry recognised and accepted route for experienced gas operatives to gain the certificate of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register. Alongside the CCN1 Core element, candidates will be assessed on the appliances they have either previously held qualifications for, or where they have provided evidence of competence through an accredited workplace portfolio. These could be any combination of the following:

  • CENWAT1 - Domestic Natural Gas Central Heating Boilers and Domestic Natural Gas Water
  • CKR1 - Domestic Natural Gas Cookers
  • HTR1- Domestic Natural Gas Fires 
  • MET2 - Domestic Natural Gas Meters

Throughout the course, training and assessment will cover a wide range elements within the Gas industry, including

  • Legislation and Gas Safety
  • Combustion Performance
  • Gas Rating and Heat Input 
  • Pipework requirements
  • Safety Controls
  • Ventilation
  • Chimney Systems
  • Tightness Testing and Purging

All candidates will receive their own physical copy of the most up to date BPEC Core and Appliance manuals, providing a handy source of reference when out and about on site!

Entry Requirement

The initial assessment route is suitable for either of the following.

  • Where you have previously held the appropriate Gas qualifications and where these qualifications have lapse by more than 12 months
  • Where you have completed the ‘new entrant’ route and have successfully completed a workplace portfolio through an accredited training provider
