Course Aims
The course is designed for beginners as well as experienced welders. The course will allow learners to progress their MAG/MIG welding skills and undertake a recognised NC unit from an SQA Qualification. The course will end with a BS 4872 coded welding test, this can be in MAG / MIG or another process depending on the learners experience.
Benefits of Attending
On completion of the course, candidates will be able to perform basic welding tasks, manage equipment to a competent standard and have a general understanding of health & safety procedures.
This course will contain 2 welding tests. The first will be to attain a recognised SQA NC unit in MIG / MAG Welding skills and the second will be a BS 4872 CSWTO Accredited welding qualification at an appropriate level for the candidate’s ability, such as a MAG PB Fillet weld on 6mm plate. (This will be assessed on completion of the course)
Outline of Programme
- Safely and Correctly use Manual Metal Arc (MMA) & Metal Active Gas (MAG) equipment.
- Identify and Assemble the Necessary Welding Equipment.
- Safe Set Up of Equipment and Preparing to Weld.
- Correctly Choose Welding Processes and Materials for Different Applications.
- Strike and Maintain the Welding Arc & Identify Process Technique Deficiencies.
- Weld fillet joints in a variety of positions.
- Correctly Identify Welding Defects and their Causes.
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required, however you should be practically minded.
Progression
Progress on to further Coded welding qualifications / gain employment at recognised skill level.
Exam
2 welding tests will be undertaken after the training process to attain a SQA NC unit as well as a BS 4872 Welding test.
