Course overview

What will I learn?

The Higher English Course (evening/fast-track) includes the study of plays, poetry, short stories and novels as well as the writing of personal, discursive and critical essays. The course also develops your listening and talking skills.

The course is aimed at those leaving school and needing additional qualifications - or higher grades; those seeking qualifications for entry to higher education programmes; individuals planning a return to study or looking at a change of career; and anyone simply wanting to develop their interest in literature and language.

Given the condensed nature of the course, fast-track applicants must be suitably qualified or have clearly developed language skills at level 6 or above.

What qualifications do I need?

Minimum entry criteria: passes in English at Standard Grade Level 1 or 2; National 5 Pass; or Intermediate 2 A or B. Other relevant qualifications/experience. Acceptance onto the programme will be based on: assessment and evidence of entry qualifications, course availability and a short written personal statement/expressive piece. Please bring your certificates to application.
