Overview
What will I learn?
The course provides the basic language skills you need to communicate in spoken and written English. You'll learn about:
- English grammar
- Vocabulary and pronunciation
- Employability skills
- Study skills
- Skills for life in Scotland
- IT
What qualifications do I need?
You don’t need any ESOL qualifications, but you must have the right language level for this course.
If you apply to study Elementary ESOL, we’ll ask you to attend a language assessment so that we can decide if it is the best level of study for you.
What can I do after?
You’ll feel more confident in applying for employment opportunities that require English for routine situations. You could also continue your studies by moving on to ESOL at Pre-Intermediate level (SCQF Level 3).

Timetable information Greenock/Clydebank: 2 days 9.15am – 4.15pm, 1 day 9.15am-1.15pm
Timetable information Paisley: Monday-Friday 9.15am – 12.15pm, 1 day 9.15am – 1pm
Maximum class size: 20
Minimum age: 16
Total number of hours per week: 16 + 5 hours self study
