Paisley Students are going places after completing a 5 day intensive fast track Swissport course.

The sessions, supported by the Digital Xtra Fund, aimed at enhancing their use of coding in the classroom. On completing the course each participating teacher was granted their own resource pack to take back to their schools including a complete set of Micro:Bit’s, thanks to sponsorship from Micro:Bit Foundation.

Jordan Gilchrist, 23, won runner-up at this year's SELECT Apprentice of the Year competition. He was interviewed by CABLEtalk, the official magazine of SELECT, the trade body which supports the interests of Scotland's electrical sector. Taking second and third place at last year’s qualifier at Sheffield, twenty year old Jamie Cairns and twenty-one year old Shannon McGhee have secured their place at the 2018 Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi.

On receiving additional funding from The Digital Xtra Fund, we are delighted to have successfully launched Coding Clubs into a further three Renfrewshire Secondary schools. The clubs aim at engaging S1/2 pupils in the use of the BBC Micro:Bit amongst other digital programmes and encouraging them to become more involved in coding.

Recognising this unique opportunity eighteen year-old Rebecca Simpson sought to gain a Modern Apprenticeship within science; a field that she had enjoyed studying at school.

West College Scotland has kicked off 2018 by launching the West of Scotland Skills Survey. The regional employer skills survey, the first of its kind to be conducted by a Scottish college or university, is a new way the College is engaging with business and industry to help build a modern workforce.
