The interactive event gave students the chance to step into the world of hospitality and travel through a series of engaging, hands-on workshops designed to spark curiosity and build confidence in industry-focused skills.

Participants enjoyed a packed programme including:

  • Professional chocolate-making demonstrations
  • A flavourful curry masterclass with MasterChef star and West College Scotland Lecturer, Sagar Massey
  • Hands-on barista training
  • A realistic cabin crew experience aboard “West Airways”

The event showcased the exciting pathways available within hospitality, travel, and tourism, allowing pupils to gain valuable insight into potential future careers within the sector.

Jan McMahon from DYW commented, “It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to get hands-on experience, build their confidence, and explore careers in hospitality, travel, and tourism.

The pupils really seemed to enjoy themselves!

The enthusiasm from pupils highlighted the value of the experience:

It was really fun and different from what we would be doing at school. I enjoyed the barista training and chocolate making.
Today was brilliant, my favourite part was the curry. I wish we had longer to do all the food activities. I loved being able to visit the college.

Curriculum and Quality Leader for Hospitality, Trave & Tourism at the college Clydebank campus Lucy Cullen, said, “We are thrilled with the success of Chefs Day and the enthusiasm shown by every young person who took part. It was fantastic to see pupils fully immerse themselves in the workshops, try new skills, and gain a real sense of what a future career in hospitality, travel and tourism could look like.

Our hope is that today has sparked inspiration and encouraged them to consider the wide range of exciting pathways this industry has to offer.

West College Scotland and DYW West remain committed to creating opportunities that support young people in exploring career pathways and developing key industry skills.
