Employer events have been organised in Greenock, Clydebank and Paisley as part of Our Workforce, Our Future campaign

West College Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce (West) are teaming up with local chambers of commerce to give employers across the West region a unique insight into the business and training needs of the local economy.

231 organisations employing more than 65,000 people responded to the College’s recent Regional Skills Survey, the first of its kind ever conducted by a Scottish college or university.  Businesses identified a looming skills gap as the single biggest threat to future growth.

The College will share the findings of the Skills Survey at events for companies throughout the region at our campuses in Clydebank, Greenock and Paisley next week.

Employers will also have the opportunity to discuss the needs of their organisation and the specific opportunities available to them, hear about the work of Developing the Young Workforce and network with representatives from their local chamber of commerce and businesses.

The events will be chaired by the Principal, Liz Connolly, who says:

“Our Regional Skills Survey provided us with a real understanding of the business needs of the region. We now want to share that with as many employers as possible. And we want to find out what we can do to help them close the skills gap and help grow the West region’s economy.”

Gavin McDonagh, who is the President of Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce, says:

“West College Scotland’s Skills Survey is an important piece of work which we think will benefit SMEs from across the region.  As well as getting an insight into the Survey findings, employers will also get an opportunity to see what opportunities there are to work with the College that will help them address issues such as digital skills and workforce planning.”

Catering will be provided at the events.
