Course Overview

Content

This course is designed to raise awareness of the principles of Safe Moving and Assisting of individuals in a Care setting.  Using sector leading equipment, the course will cover the following areas:

  • Manual Handling Legislation
  • Risk Assessment
  • Effective Moving and Assisting Techniques
  • The Anatomy of the Spine and Causes of Back Pain
  • Moving and Assisting Aids in a Care Setting
  • Incident Reporting

Format

This is a two day course. Assessment is ongoing throughout delivery. Bespoke delivery of the course can be provided for organisations with sufficient staff. Dates, times and content can be negotiated to suit specific teams. Course contents can also be customised, for example to include the Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme (SMHPS).

After successful completion of the course an annual refresher/competency update is required, which is a 1 or half day course depending on whether it is a standard course or  SMHP course.
