EIS-FELA members employed by West College Scotland have been asked by their trade union to undertake strike action on Friday 19 April and Thursday 25 April as part of a national pay dispute affecting all colleges across Scotland. We are unable to know in advance how many lecturers may participate.

All main campuses will remain open for self-study but you should only expect to attend classes if directly told to do so by teaching staff. Importantly, you WILL receive your student support payments as usual, whether or not your class runs on that day.

Student Advisory Services, Libraries, Café, Counselling and Wellbeing services are unlikely to be disrupted. Please follow our social media channels and check your MyWest app for further updates or changes to these arrangements.

Additionally, EIS members have also been asked to adhere to a programme of continuous industrial action short of strike action (ASOS) as part of the same dispute from and this entails the following:

  1. ‘Working to rule’ where members will perform duties strictly to the letter of their contracts
  2. Undertake a resulting boycott, involving EIS members withholding students’ results from College systems.

Lecturers will still assess and mark your work and provide feedback to you so that you know your results.

EIS have indicated that the industrial action short of strike will continue until 15th July 2024, though it will end sooner if a resolution is found at a national level. We will keep you updated regarding any changes.
