Carly told the College:

“I left school in June 2013 looking for work and I was finding it really difficult….

Lots of places wanted you to have at least a year experience or more, which was hard for me as I’d just left school. I heard that North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) was offering Business Administration Apprenticeships and I was really keen to secure a place. Not only could I learn new skills, but I could also get paid a salary! I was delighted to find out I’d been successful in getting a place and started my apprenticeship in October 2013. I completed my portfolio in June 2014 – a few days later I got a permanent job as a Clerical Assistant – I couldn’t believe my luck.”

The success of the NLC apprenticeship programme is evidenced by the fact that after just 9 months employment Carly was able to secure full-time employment at the Council.  West College Scotland has an established and on-going partnership with NLC in delivering the vocational qualification aspect of the programme and since the partnership commenced in 2011 have delivered vocational qualifications to over 300 apprentices at NLC.

Lorraine Irvine, VQ/MA Development Co-ordinator at North Lanarkshire Council commented:

“West College Scotland are flexible in their delivery of the qualifications.  The assessors provide a competent and reliable service.”

I really enjoyed the modern apprenticeship and learned a lot. Everyone at the College was really helpful when they came out to assess and gave good suggestions for improvements.

Carly reflects fondly on her apprenticeship:

“I really enjoyed the modern apprenticeship and learned a lot. Everyone at the College was really helpful when they came out to assess and gave good suggestions for improvements. The council is a great place to work, the team I work with is fantastic. I’m thankful to the council for giving me this opportunity and I will continue to work hard and see where my qualification takes me.'
