“I initially was attracted to WCS as I live in Clydebank and the graphic design course was based in that campus. I wanted to boost my art skills to help with a flailing tattoo artist career, but ended up thoroughly enjoying and gaining a deep interest in graphic design, fonts, layouts, mixed media and computer graphics. After I passed the NC, I enrolled onto the HNC course which fuelled my interest and pushed me to my limits. I had to overcome some major obstacles to achieve this, deep personal ones and emotional grief.”

“I attained IKEA overall graphic designer of the year 2017 as well as student of the year, which was an amazing achievement, having never won anything relating to academia. After a years’ break to look after my young daughter, I enrolled onto the HND Visual Communication course in 2019. It has been a very challenging course, pushing my design skills and computer skills to the max, with animation being the hardest but most rewarding one.”

“The support of lecturers throughout was very important - with remediation, one-to-one meetings and class conferences which helped to point out any weaknesses as well as strengths and helped me to focus on certain tasks. The time management was very good, even more so in the face of the worldwide pandemic that threw a spanner in the works, especially with my old laptop to produce up-to-date designs. The buffering symbol followed me to my dreams (nightmares?). “

“Overall it’s all been very rewarding, helping me build up an extensive portfolio with plenty work to choose from when applying for positions elsewhere. Producing products with branding, logos and design with relevant packaging has been some of my most enjoyable studies and results.””

“The course offers access to modern systems and programs with access to art materials, but save your SAAS for essential supplies and the costs of large prints to produce final artwork.”

“If you want to get a good qualification in graphic design that covers as many of the disciplines and mediums involved (which are actually more than you first realise), then I would highly recommend studying at West College Scotland with its modern facilities with excellent lecturers and a proven support background.”

“The course also offers you the chance to gain recognition as a designer not only by the college but by outside companies and businesses which proves valuable when it comes to getting into university and employment.”

“Fortunately, I was offered to study the bachelor’s degree New Media Art with University of West Scotland, starting in Sept 2020.”
