What will I learn?

You will learn about key subjects such as:

  • Chemistry
  • Experimental Procedures In Science
  • Maths
  • Human Biology or Physics

In addition you’ll develop skills such as working with scientific data as well as practical laboratory skills. Transferrable skills such as time management, resilience and working as part of a team will also be developed.

What qualifications do I need?

Depending on your interests you will need passes in either:

National 5 Biology, Chemistry and Maths

OR

National 5 Physics, Chemistry and Maths

If you're invited to an interview, please bring proof of your qualifications.

For applicants where English is not the first language you will be required to provide evidence of ESOL at Level 6 Grade C or above (or equivalent).

What can I do after?

After successfully completing this course you'll have the skills needed to get a trainee technician role in a laboratory. This could be in a university research lab, industrial lab, or NHS lab. Alternatively, you might work in production for a science company eg manufacturing materials for use in science labs or in diagnostic kits.

Or you could develop your skills further by studying another course, such as:

      • HNC Applied Science (various science routes)
      • HNC Biomedical Science
