What will I learn?

In our Greenock Campus you'll learn about:

  • Microbiology
  • Chemistry
  • Cell biology
  • Biochemistry
  • DNA and genetics
  • The human body
  • Statistics

As part of the course, you'll also develop laboratory skills.

In our Clydebank Campus you'll learn about:

  • Maths for science
  • Fundamental chemistry
  • Physics for life science
  • Physics: Electricity and Magnetism
  • Applied sciences: Graded unit 1

As part of the course, you'll also develop laboratory skills.

What qualifications do I need?

To study the course in our Greenock Campus you'll need two Highers from Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry or Maths at grade C or above, or an NC in Applied Science (SCQF level 6) or Access to Science Qualification.

To study the course in our Clydebank Campus you'll need a minimum of 2 Highers, Physics is mandatory and you can choose from, Chemistry, Maths, Engineering Science or a relevant NC6 Applied science course.

For applicants where English is not the first language you will be required to provide evidence of ESOL at Level 6 Grade C or above (or equivalent).

For a place on the course, you'll need to attend an interview.

What can I do after?

After successfully completing this course at our Greenock Campus you’ll have the skills needed to get a technician grade post in areas such as research and medical laboratory sciences.

Or you could develop your skills further by studying another course, such as:

  • HND Applied Biological Science (Biomedical Route)
  • a degree in a range of subjects from A-Z including (but not restricted to) Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Food Science, Forensics, Maths, Microbiology or Zoology

In some cases you'll be able to enter directly into second year of the degree programme

After successfully completing this course at our Clydebank Campus you’ll have the skills needed to apply for posts in the Chemical Science related industries.

Or you could develop your skills further by studying another course, such as:

  • HND Applied Science (Physics/Chemistry)
  • A degree level course in In Chemistry, Physics or Engineering )
