Course overview

What will I learn?

You'll learn about:

  • Food production
  • Running a cafe
  • Communication
  • Numeracy
  • Money skills
  • Computing skills
  • Personal and social development
  • You'll also gain a college food hygiene certificate after completing this course.

What qualifications do I need?

For a place on the course you'll need to attend an interview and show us that you're enthusiastic about working in a team, preparing food and serving others. You'll also need to have a positive attitude. Part of the course involves going into the local community for activities on the allotment, so you must be willing and able to do this.

You should be able to understand and follow verbal instructions. If you require your own personal care support you must let us know when you apply for the course and we will discuss this at your interview. Your needs will be confirmed by the school or the agency that referred you to the college.

This support must be agreed and in place before the start of your course.

At your interview you should also show that you are enthusiastic about developing new skills and participating in new experiences.

What can I do after?

After successfully completing this course you'll have the skills needed to get a supported role in catering, hospitality or gardening.

Or if you take this course as part of one or two years of study, you can develop your skills further by studying another course afterwards, such as:

  • Community Life
