Course overview

What will I learn?

There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today, with this number expected to rise to over one million by 2025. It is now more than ever essential to ensure that health and social care workers are equipped with the skills to understand and support people with dementia.

This qualification is aimed at learners who want to develop their knowledge of dementia and dementia care. It’s ideal for learners already employed in the health and social care sector who wish to upskill. Or those who have caring responsibilities for an individual with Dementia.

Learners will develop an in-depth understanding of dementia and its effects. The course explores the various types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis, as well as focusing on person-centred approaches to dementia care and the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support. This course also covers the use of medication in supporting individuals with dementia.

Topics covered in this course include

  • Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support
  • Understand how to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
  • Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support

This is a marked course which requires short essay style answers to allow your assigned marker to be able to identify that you have understood the skills and knowledge to meet the awarding body standards. The awarding body for this course is NCFE.

This is a fully online course and access to the materials and Assessments will be emailed to you.

What qualifications do I need?

Level 2 certificate in a related discipline OR significant related work experience. Before you are accepted for the course proof of your level 2 certificate is required, this will be requested as part of our payment process.

As this course is delivered online it would be beneficial if the candidate had basic competence in IT and the internet.

This course does not require a personal statement.

What can I do after?

This course provides progression to further NCFE programmes. It is also a good starting point for those individuals who are interested in entering a career in the healthcare sector.

Programme Information

You can enrol onto and start this course at any time throughout the year.

Duration: From your start date on the course you have 16-20 weeks to complete your course. You could complete in 10 weeks or use the full 20 weeks- it's up to you. Please be aware that you could be withdrawn from your course if submission dates are vastly overdue. If at any point you are struggling with deadlines you should contact us for an extension which we will assign where possible.

On successful completion and confirmation from the awarding body you will receive your qualification e-certificate online which you can print and/or save for your records. Please note a fee may be required if a hard copy certificate is requested.
