We were delighted to welcome the General Pharmaceutical Council at our Abercorn Conference Centre, Paisley Campus this week. Lynsey Cleland, General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC); Director for Scotland came to engage with our pharmacy students and pharmacy education and training specialists.

Attendees to the event came from education providers all over Scotland including our staff, Edinburgh College and Glasgow Kelvin College as well as NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

The Initial Education and Training Standards for Pharmacy Technicians is currently open for consultation, and this presentation and discussion gave those in the room the opportunity to ask questions and provide some feedback as part of the process.

The event provided lots of really helpful and important feedback that I will share with colleagues and I am delighted that the students are submitting a class response.

There was great feedback from the students and staff involved in the event and they felt it was a really beneficial for all involved. Margaret Goodwyn, one of our Science Student said:

I feel very strongly that Pharmacy Technicians should attend an educational facility for the theory element and work placements for the practical elements; as for every other registered professional. This event gave me the opportunity to put my views forward to the regulator.
