Course Overview
What will I learn?
The Sociology PDA is a real eye-opener! You will grow your meta skills to explore key topics like Social Class, Gender and Crime and Deviance. This PDA encourages you to consider society, from its origin and development, to how it’s explained by competing perspectives.
The course provides you with an understanding of key social concepts like socialisation and social order and encourages you to question and explore why society is organised the way it is. It is a valuable subject for anyone who works, or would like to work, in a variety of different careers which require and understanding of the complex relationship between the individual and society. These could be as diverse as public service, criminal justice, health, business and advertising.
What qualifications do I need?
Learners should possess good communication skills. Other knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the unit would be beneficial, such as, research skills.
The previous study of Sociology through units and National Qualifications at SCQF levels 5 or 6, or other similar qualifications, is desirable but not essential.
What can I do after?
There are various progression routes in the Social Sciences following successful completion of the course including: HNC Social Sciences, depending on suitability.
