Course Overview

What will I learn?

Whether you are curious or furious about politics, this PDA will provide you with an understanding of the competing theories of how and why the state is organised the way it is.

You will explore key ideas which continue to influence the modern world.  Developing your critical thinking and exploring key political concepts like accountability, citizenship, democracy, equality, justice, liberty, power, authority or rights will help you formulate an increased understanding of modern political systems and structures of Scotland and the UK.

What qualifications do I need?

Learners should possess good communication skills. Other knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the unit would be beneficial, such as, research skills.

The previous study of Politics through units and National Qualifications at SCQF levels 5 or 6, or other similar qualifications, is desirable but not essential.

What can I do after?

There are various progression routes in the Social Sciences following successful completion of the course including: HNC Social Sciences, depending on suitability.
