The project was developed specifically to enhance the capacity of the Senior Managers and QA staff in Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dalat , Can Tho and Kien Giang vocational Colleges. The thought process was that a consistent approach in developing transferrable skills would result in improved quality in learning, teaching and assessment.

The partnership project focused on sharing and showcasing good practice in development and implementation of quality assurance systems at a college level.

West College Scotland launched the Advanced Partnership programme in February this year when Director Sara Rae, Head of Sector Sharon Gardiner, Curriculum and Quality Leader Pauline Nelson and Lecturer Mary Frances Forry delivered a series of workshops at Nhu Trang Vocational College. At this launch, the College delivered workshops on transferrable skills to 47 delegates from these five main vocational colleges in the south of Vietnam.

Just a few months later in April, college staff members visited Phu Quoc - a beautiful island in Kieng Giang, to deliver 5 further workshops to 28 delegates.

The third and final visit was completed in early November, where workshops were delivered in Ho Chi Minh City to 23 delegates and also presented at National conference in Hanoi to over 150 delegates.

Head of Sector for Science, Social Sciences and Sport, Sharon Gardiner commented, ‘ This was an extremely fulfilling partnership. All partner colleges were very engaged from the outset. The Advanced Partnership’s key focus was to continue to increase the capacity of staff in enhancing the work and outcomes and share best practice with other colleges in Vietnam. West College Scotland staff were able to spend time with our college partners to discuss how curriculum design, employer engagement can be developed in Vietnam.’

The College would like to thank the British Council who not only funded the project but also provided valuable support. Thanks also goes to the GDVT for their commitment, direction and support in making the project successful.

‘The project aimed to build on the excellent work carried out by the Vietnamese colleges so far in developing a QA framework and quality culture. West College Scotland devised activities which developed and strengthened transferable skills in learning and teaching. It was a pleasure to work with our Vietnamese colleagues over the past 12 months and we hope we can develop this work in the future.' Business and Enterprise Director Sara Rae
