Course Overview

Course Aims

This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of small thermal hot water systems. It is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.

It will enable candidates to select the most appropriate solar system for a building based on the client’s needs and to install and maintain any of the common systems in the UK safely and efficiently.

Outline of Programme

  • Introduction to solar heating
  • Service and maintenance
  • Solar collectors
  • Hot water storage and key installation issues
  • Preparing to install a solar water heating system
  • Fitting solar collectors
  • Plumbing layout and design of solar water heating systems
  • Control and power requirements
  • System commissioning and handover to client

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have a minimum SVQ2 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering or demonstratable evidence of at least 3 years relevant experience, a Domestic Vented and Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems Certificate, Water Regulations and Part L Energy Efficiency Certificates.

Exam

Combination of practical assessment and theory exams.

3 days. 9am – 5pm

This course requires a minimum of 10 participants to run. If this number isn’t reached then you will be contacted to offer you the next available date
