Course Overview

Course Aims

The Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) is the industry recognised and accepted route for experienced gas operatives to gain the certificate of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register. The ACS qualification contains CCN1 the core gas safety element and must be achieved before further assessment can take place. Alongside CCN1 candidates must qualify in the appliances they will be working on, such as –

  • CENWAT1 - Domestic Natural Gas Central Heating Boilers and Domestic Natural Gas Water
  • CKR1 - Domestic Natural Gas Cookers
  • HTR1- Domestic Natural Gas Fires  MET2 - Domestic Natural Gas Meters

  • CCN1
  • Legislation for Gas Safety
  • Combustion, pressure and gas rates
  • Pipe work for gas
  • Gas controls
  • Flue gas analysis
  • Ventilation / Chimney systems
  • Tightness testing and purging (both low and medium pressure)

Entry Requirements

Category 2 applicants can undertake ACS Assessment if they can demonstrate evidence of a recognised qualification in a trade associated with gas work, for example, plumbing, and that they have ‘on-the-job’ experience under direct supervision of a Gas Safe Registered operative. Category 3 candidates with no previous experience must have completed the BPEC Gas Foundation programme.
