The prestigious event held at Coatbridge High School  on Monday 12 February saw students from colleges across Scotland come together to compete for top spot in a range of categories including; Body Painting, Commercial Nail Art and Gender Transformation.

Our students had an extremely successful trip scooping a total of 13 awards.

Clydebank Hairdressing and Make-up Artistry lecturer, Janet Munn, said, “All our students worked extremely hard leading up to the Regional Finals, resulting in great success at the event. It’s great to see the enthusiasm and support the students’ models and spectators provide for each other during the rollercoaster of emotions whilst preparing and competing in competitions.  Not only great networking opportunities arise from such events, but it also serves as a great marketing tool as the outstanding work carried out by our students is noticed and commented on. Indeed over the years competitions have been one of the strong factors for attracting a high number of applicants to our courses.

Seventeen year old NC Make-up Artistry student Hayley Millan from Milngavie said, “This was my first year competing in the competition – what an atmosphere! Although I had an idea of what to expect, I was still nervous.

Getting the opportunity to take part in competitions like AHT are fantastic as they give you are real insight into the industry and standard of work out there. I’m delighted to have won first place in the body painting category; it’s a real confidence booster and great feeling seeing your hard work pay off. I’m working hard on perfecting my Asia look for the finals in March.

My NC course is fantastic, it’s the perfect course for me. After my NC I’ll be continuing to HNC and HND. After that I’d like to work in industry – theatre or films both take my fancy.”

The students are now preparing themselves for the National Finals in Blackpool on the 11 and 12 March, where they will meet their competition from seven other regions from across England and Wales.
