When former colleague Gordon Lyon needed help on a project close to his heart, he knew his old friends at West College Scotland’s Greenock Campus would be happy to help.

Gordon is Chairman of the charity Scottish Aid to Eastern Europe (SAEE), a charity which delivers aid directly to those in need. With a trip to Romania upcoming, donations have been flooding in; however after 14 years of hard work collecting aid from across Scotland, the charity’s Land Rover was in need of some serious improvements.

The charity aims to minimise costs wherever possible, so Gordon looked to his old friends at the College to help them out. Andrew Neeson, Curriculum Enhancement Lecturer for Business & Technologies, was quick to get his Painting & Decorating students in to help.

Students refurbished dull and corroding bumper areas, and a badly chipped and damaged roof. Gordon and everyone at SAEE have been delighted with the final result.

“Many thanks to Andrew and his students for fixing up our rather worn out Land Rover. At fourteen years of age, some parts of the vehicle were in much need of attention.

“We are delighted with the finished job, as we travel round the West of Scotland collecting aid for the charity, we’ll be an ongoing advertisement for the fantastic local skills of West College Scotland and its Greenock campus.”

The finished Land Rover is now busy collecting aid, which will soon be delivered to those in need at Emanuel Hospice, Oradea, in North-West Romania. Find out more on the Charity’s website www.saee.org.uk.
